"Never forget the roots of your family"
A little serious of our mind:
Try to imagine, that your grandchildren can´t speak with you in your language......
Learn your family the language of the roots, so your family - children can speak their language from childhood!
Learn your family the culture of the roots, so your family understand and respect the roots e.g. Mano Po!

How pearls are made Puerto Galera is a listed by the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World, and is the only bay in the Philippines to be listed there. This coastal town is well known among tourists for its numerous pocket beaches and many snorkeling and Scuba diving spots. The area was designated a Man and Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO in 1973 and has some of the most diverse coral reef diving in Asia. The marine environment has benefited in recent years from the influx of tourist dollars. This has seen a huge reduction in the number of fishermen in the area, as they gain higher revenue from tourists. |

Piña is a fiber made from the leaves of a pineapple plant and is commonly used in the Philippines. Since piña is from a leaf, the leaf has to be cut first from the plant. Then the fiber is pulled or split away from the leaf. Most leaf fibers are long and somewhat stiff. Each strand of the piña fiber is hand scraped and is knotted one by one to form a continuous filament to be handwoven and then made into a piña cloth. |

abaca plant leaves into fabric for hundreds of years" - Remark 3
videos in the album Born in Bataan province, fashion designer Oliver Tolentino became the first Philippines-based designer to expand to the United States when he opened a Los Angeles boutique on Melrose Avenue in 2009. Within a year, he was chosen as one of nine finalists in the Motion Picture Academy's Oscars Designer Challenge at Downtown Los Angeles Fashion Week. Eco-friendly materials have become an important part of Oliver's fashion sense, and he promotes his native country's fabrics internationally by including them in his collections. "My country has been green long before it was fashionable," he explains. "The Philippines has been turning pineapple leaves and abaca plant leaves into fabric for hundreds of years; so out of national pride, I want to show how elegant 'green' can be. ... Piña, what we call the fabric from pineapple fiber, is naturally off-white with an organza texture. It creates vintage-looking gowns, but also can be dyed vibrant colors." |

Zamboanga 1936 - Early Film art - LOOK the film which
tells the story of the past ubeIceCreamCone wrote on Jul 5, 2009: "Zamboanga" was directed by my grandfather, Marvin Gardner in his native Philippines in 1936. His screen name was Eduardo De Castro. Thought lost forever, it was found in 2003? by Philippine filmmaker Nick de Ocampo at the US Library of Congress. (The copy came from Finland, hence the subtitles.) It stars Fernando Poe, Sr., the father of Fernando Poe, Jr., Philippine actor and presidential candidate. It is the oldest Filipino feature film known to exist. "Zamboanga" came at a crucial moment in the history of filmmaking in the Philippines. It showed the picturesque sea and the captivating landscape and with warring tribes and a kidnapped maiden to hook the audience’s attention," Deocampo reveals. Badjao 1957 A story about the Badjaos and the Tausogs, rival Muslim tribes for centuries. The Badjaos, a group of sea gypsies, ply the sea for food and for pearls. Hassan (Tony Santos), a son of the Badjao chief falls in love and marries Bala Amai (Rosa Rosal) who is a niece of Datu Tahil (Jose de Cordova), head of the Tausogs. At the urging of Bala Amai, Hassan decides to leave his tribe and join the Tausogs. Eventually, Datu Tahil learns of Hassan's expertise in finding rare pearls in the sea, thus exploiting him for his own selfish interests. Hassan and Bala Amai resist him, feeling that their self-respect have been trampled on. They decide to go back to the Badjaos and lead a more humble, but nevertheless peaceful life. The Badjaos accept them with all their hearts. An LVN classic film, largely because of shining performances by Rosa Rosal and Tony Santos. It won the award for best direction (Lamberto V. Avellana, National Artist for Theater and Film in 1976), best story (Rolf Bayer), best editing (Gregorio Carballo), and best cinematography (Mike Accion) at the 1957 Southeast Asia Film Festival held in Tokyo. |
